Coolangatta is the premiere tourist destination on the border of new South Wales and Queensland. Kirra Point is the Gold Coasts most famous surfing beach with the most challenging waves for the experienced surfer as well as smaller waves closer to shore for beginnners. You can spend all day watching the surfers combat the waves, enjoy a swim or just take a walk about Kirra and see the many array of shops and restaurants the area has to offer. Kirra offers soft golden sand, rolling waves,blue Pacific waters and the opportunity to soak up the semmingly endless sunshine. Always remember, for your safety; always swim between the red and yellow flags. All beaches are patrolled daily for the safety of you and your family. Kirra is also in close promimity to the airport. Chris Cunningham Park is located on Wharf St. On its eastern side is Jack Evans Boat Harbour near the river mouth. Ebenezer Park is located on Keith Compton Drive, facing the inlet to Terranora Creek. Both have childrens' play facilities. ray Pascoe Park is on the northern shore of terranora Creek opposite Boyds Island (Kennedy Drive). It has barbecue facilities, a playground and a boat ramp. On the southern bank of the creek is Dry Dock Road Park. It too has a boat ramp and playground.
The Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse are located at Point Danger at the end of Boundary St which denotes the state border. The 18-metre memorial takes the form of a capstan moulded from cast-iron ballast jettisoned from the Endeavour and recovered in the 1960s. There are four supports that lie exactly on the compass points. There are pinic spots and a walk along the cliff-edge. Dolphins can sometimes be seen out to sea. There are views of the coastline from Surfers Paradise to Byron Bay. Tweed City Shopping Centre boasts an exciting mix of retail stores and services including Big W, K-Mart, Best & Less, Coles, Woolworths and Action supermarkets. For a meal, snack or beverage you can not beat the Food Court or the varoius eateries & cafes located around Tweed City. With 120 specialty stores and services including an AMC Six Cinema complex, Tweed city offers a vast range of fashion, homewares, food, jewellery and giftware as well as a wide rangeof banks and services. Open 7 days, tweed City is located just 5 minutes south of Coolangatta Airport at South Tweed Heads. Tweed City Shopping Centre is easily accessed by three entry points. Access is available via Minjungbal Drive (Old Pacific Hwy) at the intersections of either Macinery Drive, the junction of Blundell Boulevard, or Kirkwood Road, or catch a surfside bus directly to the centre. See advert on board. Wintersun starts on Friday 2nd June and ends with the huge Best Of Wintersun Concert on Monday 12th June. Wintersun is Australia's leading annual Retro Nostalgia Festival. Featuring over 1000 Hot Rods, Custom, and Classic Cars, more than 100 bands and performers, dancing, movies, street parade and competitions. The Festival is held in the border coastal towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. Many events are free; some are in the streets while others are in the local clubs and shopping centres. Gold Coast International Airport is the most convenient gateway for air travel to the Tweed and Northern NSW. It is the seventh busiest airport in Australia, welcoming over 2.8 million passengers in 2004. The departure lounge was extended in March 2005 with runway extensions to be completed in March 2007.
